Christmas Choccy Squares

This is a simple recipe that uses leftover mince pies and wrapped chocolate, which people usually have large amounts of during the Christmas period.

Serves [8]

Ingredients

  • 150 grams chocolate (avoid toffee covered in chocolate)

  • 4 mince pies

  • 1 pinch of cinnamon

Method

  1. Fill a saucepan with a small amount of water and bring it to a simmer. With the hob on a low heat, sit a glass heatproof bowl on top of it so it rests on the rim of the saucepan, making sure the glass bowl doesn’t touch the hot water. Put the chocolate in the bowl and slowly mix until it melts.

  2. Alternatively, put the chocolate in the microwave for 20-30 seconds then take the bowl out and stir. Put the bowl back in the microwave and repeat the process until the chocolate has melted.

  3. Spoon half of the melted chocolate into the bottom of a 20 x 20 cm baking tray and put it in the freezer for 5 minutes.

  4. Cut or break the mince pies into rough bits. Put them into a mixing bowl, adding a pinch of cinnamon and the remaining melted chocolate, and mix well.

  5. Take the tray out of the freezer and add the mixture to it, flattening it out with a spoon until it’s flat and even.

  6. Put the tray back into the freezer until it sets, then remove from the tin and cut into square pieces.
